Session Details

I would like to take a moment to provide you with some detailed information regarding the process of a photo session.

Home Studio

I have been working from my home studio since May of 2000. My home is in Southfield Michigan and I schedule photo sessions by appointment. I find that working in my home offers a unique opportunity for the comfort, safety and intimacy that is essential for the family photography that I do. For your convenience, I also offer sessions in your home or other outside locations.

Initial consultation

I find that meeting my clients first, and discussing what it is they are looking for in a photo session, is the best way to start a working relationship. I make appointments in my home, or if you think you will want your photo session in your home; I will come to you. Consultations are included in your session fee. Children are welcome!

During your consultation, you can review my portfolio to make sure my style is right for you, and you can bring any ideas you may have regarding your photo session. I view a successful and enjoyable photo session as a blending of my creative energy with yours. We will discuss session fees and what the fees include. I require a 50% deposit once you book a date and time. A 24 hour cancellation notice is required for a refund of your deposit. If you need to reschedule an appointment, you must book another date within 3 months. Your initial deposit can be applied to the rescheduled appointment. The balance of the session fee is due, the day we take the photos.

Payment

I accept cash or checks. Please make checks payable to “Lisa Dunlap”. If we book a session over the phone, you may mail the deposit.

Proofs and Enlargements

Your proofs will be ready within 1-2 weeks. You will receive (30-40) 4x5 or 4x6 proofs, in a proof book; they are yours to keep. You will also receive either one 5x7 or one 8x10 enlargement of your choice. This is included in your session fee. All enlargement orders are to be paid in full, when placing the order. Enlargements take approximately 2-4 weeks; please take this into consideration when placing your order.

What to wear

For black and white photography: Anything with texture works well for children. Denim, corduroy, and sweaters are all good choices. Choose clothing without a lot of pattern. Simple comfortable clothing tends to work best. Feel free to bring several outfit changes, keeping in mind your child’s tolerance for having their clothes changed. When having more than one person photographed, clothing should stay in the same tonal range. One person wearing white and the other wearing black can be a too much contrast in a photo.

For color photos: Bring anything that you would love your child to wear. Again, if more than one person, it would be best to dress in similar toned colors. For an example: brown, dark yellow and olive green are beautiful together.

Time commitment

Most sessions take from 45 to 90 minutes. For newborn sessions, plan for approximately two hours. Please bring extra diapers, food and anything that soothes your child. When booking a photo session, try to find the optimum time when your baby will be well rested and well fed. Please reschedule if your child is sick.

My Style

Looking at the photos on this website can give you a good idea of my style. Mostly, I like simplicity; I don’t use a lot of props. I like to focus on the person and create a space for their natural essence to come through. When I look at an infant or a child through the lens of my camera, they are so fresh from God, their souls are right there. I am blessed to be a witness to such a revealing of Spirit. This is the blessing of my work. This is why I do what I do, and I love every minute of it.

I thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your family.
